Which side do I use for what?

The side with 17 rounded teeth thins the coat and takes out loose undercoat. The side with 9 teeth cuts through mats that sit deeper in the coat.

Will it scratch my dog's skin?

No. The stainless steel blades are rounded at the tips and nested, so they work through the coat without catching the skin underneath.

Does it work on cats as well as dogs?

Yes, it is listed for both. The head is 17 cm (6.7 in) wide, which is what makes it quick on a big coat like a golden retriever.

Is it comfortable for a long grooming session?
